In Praise of the Simple Fleece

Two important things for you to know about us Skogstad peeps.  

 

1: We love a good fleece. To the extent that we have even made a fleece suit. 

 

2. We are not such big fans of the adult-sized “onesie”. We are very confident that the onesie will come and go and end up in the same place as Reebok pumps, shoulder pads, and Screech from Saved by the Bell. 

 

We have great faith in the fleece jacket however. This is one item of clothing that has a use and will be with us for as long as there is cold weather. Here’s why. 

 

To the majority of Scandinavia the fleece is known for being an incredibly versatile item and necessary item of clothing. Fleeces are very warm and yet they breathe well. Throw them on over a merino wool base layer from Skogstad and you well protected from the April-October wind and cold. 

 

Fleece jackets and fleece suits wash very easily and they are not easy to stain. Sweat in them, play sport in them, wear them 24/7, try-and-do-a-handstand-in-front-of-your-friends-but-fail-and-end-up-on-your-face-in-the-mud in them, and they will wash, keep their shape and dry quickly. 

 

They last a long time. Buy one that is well-designed and well-made and you can pretty much wear it non-stop for the next ten years and it will look great every day. 

 

Finally, they trap air to keep you warm. Skogstad’s do anyway. You are mimicking a sheep's coat when you put on a Skogstad fleece. 

 

Skogstad’s fleeces are for the outdoorsy person. Throw them on under a raincoat or as a top layer on a bright day in March. This is an item of clothing that will last both the test of time and the test of adventure. Oh, and one thing we should add is that Skogstad have made the fleece look good again. Check them out.
